My family is, and always will be very pro-circumcision. As soon as I learned what it meant to circumcise a baby, I chose not to do it. I wouldn't circumcise my son OR my daughters (like in other countries). I'm happy to see people catching on to the trend of leaving boys uncut. If my son ever wants to cut his foreskin, I'll let him make that decision on his own. I don't believe I have the right - even as his mother.

"Ultimately, whether or not to circumcise is a very personal decision that is up to the parents." NO, it's up to the owner of the genitals. My privates are NONE of my parents' business.

"The most basic benefit to circumcision is hygiene. Circumcision allows for easy cleansing of the genitals." FALSE. Intact children are easier to care for. You just wipe like you would any other body part. No special care. Circumcised babies require care of a wound, watching for infections and adhesions. This one's a no-brainer.

" In the first year of life, urinary tract infections are up to 10 times as common in uncircumcised baby boys." Yes, according to a long outdated, bogus study. This fallacy has since been disproven. Even so, little girls get 2X the number of UTI's compared to boys. Do we treat them pre-emptively by excising parts of their genitals at birth? No?

"In adulthood, circumcised men have a lower risk of being diagnosed with penile cancer and contracting sexually transmitted diseases." The American Cancer Society has issued a statement that circumcision is NOT an effective means of prevention.

Here we go again. One more doctor leaving out so many key issues on why NOT to circumcise. First, it is medically unethical to destroy, remove, excise healthy, living purposeful body structures that humans have had from the beginning of the race. Genital integrity, wholeness and human rights are fundamental. This doctor fails to mention that babies die from circumcision and botched circumcision are too much to risk. Moreover, in this country, parents and doctors are obsessed with "cleanliness" when water easily cleans the penis. Billions of males have retracted their foreskins routinely to clean behind them and it takes only a few seconds. C'mon, parents don't buy those fear-factors like urinary tract infections. Cancer is not even worth mentioning because it is so rare in the penis. It is simply wrong, wrong, wrong to be cutting of part of another human being to fit any parents' notions -- cosmetic, religious or otherwise.

Instead of asking your doctor, ask yourself the same question translated into proper English: Should I allow my doctor to torture and mutilate my baby boy? Circumcisers often purposely won't inform parents about the risks entailed by this cruel, stupid and barbaric sex crime because they just want to profit. More than 100 baby boys die in the US every year at the hands of circumcisers that inflict preventable and completely unnecessary injuries on children's healthy genitals. Some have to live with life time complications from this disfigurement that can cause sexual dysfunction and some of the poorest souls even lose all their genitals. This may give you a clear asnwerr to your question. Circumcision is a crime that needs to be banned worldwide.

Tight foreskins are in fact a natural occurrence in little boys and have nothing to do with phimosis. They have a protecting function as the foreskin acts like a one way valve that protects the urinary tract. Dirt usually can not get in and should any get in anyway, then it will be flushed out by the disinfecting urine next time the boy pees. The so called Langerhans cells, present in the skin and in higher quantities in all mucous skins, produce an enzyme that destroys bacteria and viruses. In little boys the foreskin is also attached to the glans (head of the penis) like a fingernail is attached to the finger and therefore it should not be forcefully retracted at all. Any attempt to retract it is what usually causes infections that can lead to urinary infections. Doctors and nurses should know this and parents should be informed about it. Trying to clean underneath the foreskin with soap also can lead to inflammation or infections. Only rinse the penis with clear water, the body's natural immune system will take care of the inside. The only reason why urinary tract infections are more common in intact babyboys is because of forceful retraction. Beware of those circ profiteers, they have purposely tried to retract causing all the problems in the first place. Even an infection is no reason to amputate the foreskin. Boys can be cured with antibiotics, the same way little girls get treated.

It is possibly true that intact boys of <1 year have 10 times the UTIs but that still leaves 99% who will never get one. As for harm to sexual function, I can verify that it does harm. At 65 years I can no longer orgasm during intercourse due to diminished sensitivity.

To any woman who thinks that baby boys should be circumcised, how would you like it if your vulva had been modified so that your clitoris rubbed on your underwear, and had the nerve laden surface inside your vagina removed, so that you had a muffled sensation when you have intercourse. Then you would get a pretty good idea what a mutilated man feels, as I know from bitter experience.
