App review: iBreastfeed

Price: Free
Worth it: Possibly

If you’re pregnant with your first child and approaching the second half of your third trimester, it may be time to decide whether you’ll be breastfeeding or bottle-feeding your little one. There are benefits to each method, but if you’re looking to get more information about breastfeeding, Medela’s iBreastfeed app might be worth downloading onto your smartphone.

With this application, mom-to-bes can use the Breastfeeding Resource Guide to learn about feeding, pumping and how to handle a number of challenges that may pop up. There are also tips for breast milk storage and plenty of links to other great sites with helpful information.

If you decide that breastfeeding is the right choice for you and your baby, you can then use the app’s Baby Activity Log to track feedings and record important information. If you have multiples, you can record the activities of up to six babies! You’ll also be able to use the Breastfeeding-Friendly Places feature to find comfortable places to feed or pump milk. And, when you locate a good place, you can comment so other moms can enjoy it too.

This app is definitely worth checking out if you’re going to be breastfeeding your baby, but if not – there’s likely no need to download it.
