Review: Philips AVENT Digital Monitor

Philips AVENT Digital Video Baby Monitor

MSRP: $219 2.4” color screen; night vision; 492’ range usa.philips.com

The Philips AVENT monitor is a solid, but relatively expensive digital monitor. It uses DECT technology for a private connection. The screen is a good size at 2.4” and the range will be good in most homes. The camera itself looks like a round ball that can be cradled in a base, which makes it easy to adjust for direction. The baby camera unit can be used with the included AC adapter, or with regular or rechargeable batteries for a cordless option. The parent unit is one of the larger ones we tested and you might find it hard to wear on your belt. Like a few other units, the video goes dark to save on battery when not in use, but wakes up automatically when the monitor detects sound. The Philips AVENT stands out as the easiest monitor to use for the mom who wants basic functions without having to read a manual. It’s as easy to set up and use as sound- only monitors, including a simple up/down volume switch that also turns the monitor off.

Best for the new mom looking for easy use.
