British soccer star and model wife welcome baby number 3

Steven Gerrard, a star soccer player for a Liverpool-based team, and his wife of four years, Alex Curran, recently expanded their family clan to make room for a new baby girl!

Following in the steps of iconic trendsetter Madonna, the couple christened the baby Lourdes, which is the name of a French town that many Catholics make pilgrimages to every year. Both mom and dad are practicing Catholics, which may have inspired the name they chose, the Daily Mail reports. Gerard also attended a Catholic high school and married his wife in a Catholic ceremony.

Gerrard has sustained several injuries that may have impacted his agility on the field this season, but the joy of welcoming a newborn has likely minimized any professional woes.

As for Curran, the beaming mama regularly writes for OK! Magazine and mentioned that she was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her baby in a recent column. She admitted to taking frequent baths so she could be fresh and clean whenever she goes into labor!

"Steven's so excited this time around," writes Curran. "I think when you're younger you don't appreciate things as much, and now we're older we just can't wait."

The column was published on the first of November – the day she gave birth. The newborn arrived at 4 p.m., weighing a healthy 7lb 15oz, the news source reports. A spokesman for Gerrard announced that both the mother and child were doing well and that the couple wanted to thank the media for respecting their privacy.

Curran, 29, and Gerrard, 32, already have two older daughters – Lilly-Ella, who is 7 years old, and 5-year-old Lexie.
