6 simple and sweet ways to boost intimacy

Make sure your relationship is rock solid before baby arrives. We bring you 6 simple ways to boost that loving feeling.

There's nothing to throw a household into utter chaos like bringing home a newborn. Between sleepless nights, endless feedings and diaper changes, you may find yourself pushing the care of your relationship to the bottom of your to-do list. Take time now, before your little one arrives, to nurture the love you share with your partner. To get you started, we bring you six little ways for the two of you to amp up your affection while you wait for delivery day:

Let it go: All the sweet gestures in the world won't make a difference if you harbor resentment or hold a grudge. Instead of letting arguments escalate, take a deep breath and ask yourself why you're really on edge. Chances are, you're letting mounting anxiety over your pregnancy get to you and you don't need to take that out on the one you love.

Unplug together: It's not quality time you're spending together if each of you has a phone or laptop in hand. Look up from your electronic devices every once in a while and designate a day of the week tech-free. By making a promise to unplug, you'll be devoting 100 percent to connecting with your partner.

Leave a note: A simple note can make a big impact. Scribble "I love you" on the steam in the bathroom mirror to greet your partner when he steps out of the shower. Slip a love letter into his coat pocket or tuck one under his windshield wiper. Whatever you choose to do, your loving words will come off as a happy little surprise.

Send a text: Let him know he's on your mind by interrupting his day with a short and sweet text message. A simple "thinking of you" will be enough to put a smile on his face and keep that loving feeling going strong.

Hug it out: Researchers suggest that touching, whether it's hugging or hand-holding, is enough to boost our levels of the feel-good hormone oxytocin. In turn, this simple touch can promote trust, comfort and devotion – all good reasons to reach out for a good hug.

Pay a compliment: You know that old saying, "Flattery will get you everywhere?" Well, it certainly applies here. Offering praise and affirmation will clue your partner in on how much you love and appreciate him.

So, what do you think? Do you have any special ways you're showing your partner you care?
