Shakira, the Colombian singer of Whenever, Wherever and Hips Don't Lie, confirmed on her website that she's expecting her first child with boyfriend Gerard Pique, a soccer player for FC Barcelona. Rumors about the pregnancy have been circulating since June, reports the New York Daily News, but this is the first time the star has opened up about it.
"As some of you may know, Gerard and I are very happy awaiting the arrival of our first baby!" she wrote in English and Spanish on her site. "At this time we have decided to give priority to this unique moment in our lives."
The 35-year-old was slated to perform at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, recently but informed her fans that she wouldn't be taking part yet would follow everything happening there.
It isn't clear how far along Shakira is in her pregnancy, but there's no doubt that she'll be busy once her bundle of joy arrives. She's all set to temporarily stand in for Christina Aguilera as a judge on next spring's season of NBC's The Voice.
