Olympic volleyball star Kerri Walsh announces pregnancy

by Pregnancy Editors

It may be hard to believe, but Kerri Walsh, the beach volleyball gold medalist, was five weeks pregnant during the London Olympics. This makes her the second pregnant woman who competed in the games alongside Malaysian air rifle shooter Nur Suryani Mohd Taibi. The superstar athlete recently made the pregnancy announcement on the Today Show with her husband, Casey Jennings.

Apparently, the couple started trying for their third child a month before the games took place, thinking that it would be a while before she got pregnant. Boy, were they wrong!

“I thought it could have been the stress of the games and travel kind of throws your schedule off, but I knew,” Walsh told Matt Lauer on the show. “At some point, you’re late and then you start feeling something. And I definitely started feeling something in London.”

While Kerri is beyond excited about the upcoming arrival of her third child in April, she confided that morning sickness has been a problem this time around. She felt fine carrying her two sons, Joseph, 3, and Sundance, 2, but now she feels different. Good thing she doesn’t have any upcoming matches to win!
