Fertility, part two: Four ways to boost your man’s boys

by Pregnancy Editors

If you've been having trouble trying to conceive and you're pretty sure that you're already doing everything in your power to boost your fertility, perhaps it's your man that's the problem! If your guy doesn't practice the healthiest of habits, he may very well be the reason why you two are struggling to have your first child. Here are a few ways you can get your guy to shape up and get those sperm going.

1. Have sex on a regular basis. Studies have shown that guys who ejaculate often tend to have healthier sperm with less DNA damage. Try having sex once a day if your guy has a regular sperm count, and twice a day if tests have shown that he has a bit less.

2. Help him embrace the wonder of multivitamins. Getting your guy to take one multivitamin a day can ensure that he's acquiring the right nutrition in order to foster healthy sperm. Vitamins E and C are particularly important, but so are minerals and substances like folic acid, omega-3s, zinc and selenium.

3. Keep him cool. High levels of heat can lower a guy's sperm count and hurt its production. Ask your partner to use a table for his laptop and make sure he doesn't spend too much time in hot baths or steamy hot tubs. Even tight underwear can hinder sperm production! A breezy set of boxers might be a better alternative.

4. Skip the lube. While personal lubricants can make sex a lot more pleasurable, they can actually decrease the mobility of your man's sperm. Lotions and even saliva can often have the same effect, so when you're trying to get pregnant, just make sure you have plenty of time to warm up.
