3 unique ways to care for your health as a mom

by Sammi DeRosia Leave a Comment

As many of us know, being a mom is the most important job you can have! It involves many responsibilities, but as a mom, you learn how to juggle multiple things at once. From taking care of the kids to managing household tasks and balancing work, your mental and physical health can oftentimes take a backseat. However, just because you’re a busy mom, it doesn’t mean you can’t prioritize your mental and physical health. So, how do you do that? Let’s talk about it!

Go outside

I know it sounds silly, but going outside offers some huge health benefits. Believe it or not, just going outside, breathing in fresh air, and taking in natural sunlight can boost your mood!

Wanna know the best way to ensure you spend more time outside? You should create a space that you want to hang out in! That’s right, you now have a great excuse to repave your patio in the backyard. In fact, 59.6% of new homes even include patios! A mom needs a great place to wind down at the end of the day, and what better place to do that than on a beautiful patio?

Outside of patios, creating an outdoor space that you actually want to spend time in will make it that much easier for your family to spend time outdoors too. Are you trying to get the kids to finally turn off the video games and do something outside with the family? Creating a fun outdoor environment is the first step!

Whether you enjoy morning walks, gardening, or weekend picnics, taking this time for yourself outdoors is really important. These small changes can have a significant impact on your overall health and life, meaning you’ll become a better mom in the long haul!

Visit a spa

Next, we’ll talk about a personal favorite of mine; the spa. Spas offer much-needed relaxation for busy moms (or at least it certainly does for me!). The benefits of therapeutic massages and facials are enormous. These treatments relieve muscle tension and provide a much-needed mental escape from the daily stress of childcare. 59% of women who had a facial massage reported a feeling of freshness and rejuvenation. I know that whenever I feel like I need to hit that “reset” button, I book a spa appointment. It works like a charm!

However, I understand that this isn’t the best option for everyone. Don’t want to spend the money or leave the house? You can create an at-home spa! Draw a warm bath, light some scented candles, put on some light music, and boom! You’ve now created a spa-like experience in the comfort of your own home! Maybe just make sure the kids are at school first.

Join a sport

Now you may not be expecting this last one, but joining a sport can be a really fun way to stay active and boost your health. You could join a local community team sport or even take up something more individualized like running!  There are about 50 million Americans who participate in some form of running, so why not join them?

I played tennis when I was in high school, so it’s something that I’ve come back to from time to time as an adult. It was a workout then and it’s surely a workout now! But having an active sport that gives you a full-body workout that you can always come back to is really important.

Maintaining health as a mom involves working your own personal well-being into family responsibilities and daily tasks. By taking moments to go outside, visit a spa, or join a sport, you can nurture your health in many ways. These activities provide stress relief, allowing for a more balanced and healthy lifestyle. Prioritizing health benefits not just you, but your entire family.
