Even if you decide to let the ultrasound technician tell you the gender of your baby, you may have to endure up to five months of suspense as you wait for the image to reveal the sex. Thankfully, you and your partner can use secret methods of determining whether you’ll have a son or daughter. Most of these tests are generally considered to be old wives’ tales and have no strong scientific evidence behind them. However, folklore has to originate somewhere, and you just may make an accurate prediction!
1. Morning sickness.
If you experience morning sickness all day long, you may be carrying a girl. Although moms who give birth to boys sometimes have rough bouts of nausea, there may be a bit of scientific truth to this superstition. Research has shown that women who endure hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe form of morning sickness, tend to have girls.
2. Heart rate.
The word on the street is that a fast heart rate indicates a girl, while a low heart rate indicates a boy. You’ll be able to see the heartbeat on the ultrasound around 6 weeks, but it may not be loud enough for you to hear until around 12 weeks.
If you deal with acne breakouts throughout your pregnancy, you may be having a girl. Similarly, if you have a fuller face, a daughter may be on the way. Some believe that little girls steal their mother’s beauty while they’re in the womb.
4. Lunar calendar.
Several people turn to Chinese birth charts to guess the gender of their babies. This system uses the lunar calendar and evaluates the mother’s age and the month of conception to make a prediction.
