How to ask friends, family for help as a new mom

by Pregnancy Editors Leave a Comment

Once your baby is born, your friends will undoubtedly be chomping at the bit to help you out. But if you’re getting flooded with calls and letters, you may feel as if there’s so much to do, you don’t even know where to begin. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, take a step back and ask for assistance in the following areas:

1. Ask for a home-cooked meal

As a new mom, you’ll be so busy changing diapers and warming bottles that you almost certainly won’t have time to heat up some Easy Mac, let alone whip up a family dinner. Wrangle your friends into bringing over a casserole or a pot of soup to make your life a lot easier.

2. Ask your parents to watch the baby

You and your husband will barely have any time to yourselves for the first few months after your little one is born, so allowing those you trust to help with babysitting duties could give you a chance to slip out for a movie or dinner. Even if it’s for an hour or two, you deserve a quick break!

3. Ask for some help with doctor’s appointments

You’ll have a few follow-up appointments after the delivery, but heading to the doctor’s office with an infant in tow can be tough. Let your best pals assist you in getting there on time.
